NPMA’s Professional Women in Pest Management to Sponsor “Dress for Success” in 2008-2009

Community service initiative launched at PestWorld 2008

September 8, 2008 – The Professional Women in Pest Management (PWIPM), an affiliate organization of the National Pest Management Association (NPMA),  is proud to announce its support for Dress for Success as its 2008-2009 community initiative.  Dress for Success, which was founded in 1997, is an international non-profit organization that promotes economic independence for disadvantaged women.  By providing women with professional attire, a support network through its Professional Women’s Group and career development tools, Dress for Success affords women the essential means to find and sustain full-time employment.

In honor of NPMA’s 75th Anniversary, which is focused upon the pest management industry’s commitment to community service, PWIPM is seeking to collect seventy-five complete professional outfits during PestWorld 2008 held in Washington, DC metro area, October 22-25.  Subsequently, through the remainder of 2008 and into 2009, members of PWIPM will then collect gently-used professional clothes and accessories in their local communities, allowing women – outside the pest management profession – to support this deserving cause.

“We can all appreciate the confidence that comes from feeling good about the way we look and this feeling is only enhanced when interviewing for a new job,” said Emily Thomas, president of Arrow Exterminators in Atlanta, GA and co-chair of PWIPM.  “However, Dress for Success is about far more than new clothes.  We are proud to work with this outstanding organization as it changes women’s lives by providing the necessary support system that is critical to long-term success.”

PWIPM encourages the donation of the following gently-used/new items for Dress for Success at PestWorld 2008:

  • Full Suit Sets/Business Suits (Black & Navy Blue; Sizes 0-14)
  • Separates: Slacks, Blouses & Skirts (All Professional in Nature)
  • Panty Hose (All Sizes; New)
  • Professional Shoes (In All Sizes and In Good Condition)
  • Professional Handbags (In Good Condition)
  • Professional Style Jewelry
  • Accessories (Dress Scarves, New Makeup, etc.)

“We encourage all women in the pest management industry to raid their closets and help us to successfully launch this program at PestWorld 2008 and sustain it through 2009,” said Thomas.  “It is this generosity and our collective commitment to Dress for Success that will help to open doors for women in need of a second chance.”

Donations for Dress for Success can be brought to the PWIPM Dress for Success Lounge at the Gaylord National Resort at PestWorld 2008 or [shipped directly to the NPMA by October 17].  To learn more about PWIPM’s Dress for Success initiative or how to donate, please visit: www.npmapestworld.org/PWIPM.  For information regarding Dress for Success’ international program, visit http://dressforsuccess.org
